26 Hill Street
There was a rather ugly existing lift in a very elegant stairwell which let the main entrance to the building down
The shaft width was less than 1100mm and the depth was not much bigger either
At the top floor there was a skylight some 6 m above the top entrance
The lift had to be unsupported at this point so the lift had to have a heavy structure to carry the loads
The client wanted a glass shaft to reduce the impact of the lift enclosure
To add to the problems the top floor entrance joinery was listed so this all had to be dealt with
We had to accommodate an awful lot within a small space and leave space for a useable lift car
As can be seen the results were not bad, a modern high performance lift adding elegance and beauty to a wonderful entrance area
